"Where we pretend to be other." Project RUBICK is a 2.5D online platform brawler with a social freeground. Players customize anime-style chibi characters, hang out and chat in a walkable freeground area, then compete on an isometric battle platform. The goal is to knock opponents off the stage or reduce their respawn count. Inspired by Super Smash Bros for gameplay rules, Rapture Rejects for isometric controls, and Picrew for the layered character customization system.
Freeground: Chat and interact with other players. Battleground: Get the least death count possible.
Players spawn on an isometric platform and fight until time runs out. Every attack deals damage and knockback. A player who gets knocked out or falls off the platform gains one Death. The player with the fewest Deaths at the end wins. Items spawn randomly on the map, each with different knockback and damage values.
Characters use a layered sprite system inspired by Picrew. Instead of building a model from scratch, players choose from preset parts across every body region. All parts are 2D rigged sprites rendered in a 3D world using a custom URP skew shader to achieve the 2.5D isometric look.
